[comp.unix.questions] TCP/IP across a DMR11

    Hi,
We are haveing some trouble configuring a point to point
link between a pair of DEC communications controllers. Here is
      some background to the problem:

Currently there are two vax 785's talking over
DMR-11's via df129 modems on a leased line. This
link runs TCP/IP protocol. The way that we circumvent
the DEC DDCMP protocol is by putting the devices into
`maintenance mode' (flags 0x1 in the devices kernal entry)
This allows full duplex with no sequencing and no
retransmission of packets. This set up ( DMR11=>DMR11)
	  works great.

Here is where the problem starts. We would like to migrate our
network to a Microvax II. This machine runs Ultrix 2.0 (2.0-1?)
and uses a DMV11 controller in its Q-bus. The DMV11 controller
has flags set in the kernal to put it in maintenance mode.
When the link comes up, it is in maintenance mode, but half
duplex. It seems impossible to put the DMV11 into maintenance
mode and full duplex at the same time. I have worked with the
Ultrix support people. After an attempt to patch the driver with
adb which didn't work, the called this configuration `unsupported'
and claimed that there was nothing else that they could do.

My question is: Are any other Ultrix/Unix Microvax sites
using this controller for anything other than DDCMP?
How do you configure the device? Has anyone tried to
use any other than the Ultrix 1.2 driver?

We would appreciate any info on this problem. We have already
purchased the controllers and running them in half duplex
is too slow to be an option.

      Thanks for your time...
