the result of my quest: ttype, apparantly available at your friendly neighbor- hood archive site, by Chris Bertin, 1983; and as modified by Paul Hubbard, 1985. Both give random characters, limited sets of random characters, words, or a file for you to type. Both give speed and error rates. The original is more typewriter-like, in that mistakes are there, period. The modification allows crt-like correction on a crt, which happens to be more along the lines of what I wanted. Both have big problems with Xon/Xoff flow control, in that they think that ^S is S and ^Q is Q. Perhaps I will go fix this, if I can, as I detest twiddling flow control on my terminal. (also one of the two big reasons that I *loathe* EMACS. Using ^S for a control character? Get Real. Use vi) One guy wanted me to buy his *micro* program. Definitly NOT what I asked for. And mikep, out on uunet, I have not gotten any reply to my attempts to determine a working return path. But, I guess you can get this thing from archives, so perhaps I don't need to get to you myself. comp.unix.sources, I think, ttype or ttype2, I think. (don't know. kind souls mailed me mine, other kind souls offered to if I didn't have it yet. Thanks to all.) -Lawrence Smith, developing more fingers.
