[comp.unix.questions] Sending postscript to lw via lpr

alen@cogen.UUCP (Alen Shapiro) (10/28/87)

I would like to print raw postscript on our laserwriter connected
to a sun 3/280. I have tried sending the file using lpr (the manual
states that if the %! header chars are detected on as the first 2 chars,
the file will be sent unfiltered). Well the file IS sent. The lw light
blinks for a while and no output is seen. The SAME file sent using
tip to /dev/lw (to hold XON/XOFF and other sanity conditions) and the
raw file send (~> <filename>) works fine, but this cludge bypasses
the spooler (not healthy if it is to be done often).

Any netters have any ideas on what might be going wrong with the lpr
solution?

Mail me with the answers - if a solution is found I'll repost to
unix.questions, unix.wizards and sys.mac (where the question has
also come up)
