[comp.unix.questions] ditroff for BSD

dv@well.UUCP (11/21/87)

I'm trying to get a version of ditroff that'll run under 4.2/4.3.
Does such a beast exist?

(I have an old version, but it's origin is shrouded in the mists
of time, and I'd like an newer (hopefully better) version).

Device-independent troff is available (under license!) as part
of AT&T's Documenter's WorkBench software. I've been involved
with bringing it up on 4.nBSD-based systems, and there wasn't
much problem except on machines where varargs can't be handled
by the old "all the world's a VAX" kludgery. There are
several bugs, however; if you can afford it your best bet is
probably to get a supported, enhanced version from some vendor
such as SoftQuad in Toronto.

AT&T licensing phone # is (800)828-UNIX.

I have gotten both versions (the orginal one that came alone) and
and the one that comes with DWB to work under 4.3BSD. The orginal
version I also had running on a PDP under 2.9 (then we got our VAX).
We also have pic working (but our drivers don't yet support the \D
commands).

Try TEXTWARE, Brent Byer, POBox 14, Harvard Square, Cambridge MA.
(617)864-8398. They also sell various ditroff post processors.

My only connections with TEXTWARE is as a satisfied user.
