I need HELP! I have a Callan UniStar 300 (cough, choke, arghhhh) that came to me with two 43MB Micropolis 1304 fixed disks installed. The second drive had no appreciable file space allocated i.e., it was virtually empty. I had a hard disk failure on my AT machine, so I snatched the extra drive from the Callan to use as a stopgap until the Warranty paid off on the broken drive. Of course I formatted the darned thing for MS-DOS. Eventually my other drive came in and I took the drive back to the Callan. The UNIX OS that comes with the Callan has a program called DISKCONFIG for adding and/or subtracting drives in the field. Its a shell script that does DISKFORMAT, MKFS, etc. My problem is I alwasy get a write error and read error for each of the three file systems on that physical device. In other words, the darned disk is not getting properly formatted for the Callan. I am something of a UNIX novice so would appreciate any suggestions and/or comments. Is there some other step I have to do? In short, what the HELL do I have to do to format (low level or high level or anything in between) the drive so that I can again use it with the Callan system?
