[comp.unix.questions] silent output from cshell programs

andrew@csd4.milw.wisc.edu (Andrew David Biewer) (01/30/88)

I like to write programs in the cshell in which to run in the
background because sometimes they take quite a long time to finish
running and I'd like to do other stuff instead of wait. The problem
is, I incorporate other programs (i.e., elm) in these programs, but
when you send mail through elm, it sends a message to the terminal:
"sending mail..." and "mail sent!". I believe all those who use elm
are familiar with this. I would like to know if there is a simple way
via a csh command which eliminates the output to the terminal?

Any replys can be directly sent to: andrew@csd4.milw.wisc.edu
or tack a .bitnet on the end.

Thanks in advance,
