[comp.unix.questions] What happened to comp.unix.microport ?

john@wa3wbu.UUCP (John Gayman) (01/31/88)

What happened to comp.unix.microport ? I havn't seen anything in
several weeks. Furthermore, I've tried sending direct Email to the
moderator only to have it bounced back many days later saying that the
host hasn't been heard from in "x" days and is thought to be dead.
What gives here ? Geez, I've been pumping out postings and information
that I've come across that would be of interest to the general Microport
user population and its dissappearing into space. I'm certainly not
flaming the moderator, its not his fault the path is down, but what steps
do we the users of comp.unix.microport have to take to have the newsgroup
become un-moderated ? I understood at one time it had to do with volume
of usage; well recently Im sure this is bordering 0% because of this
path problem.

I recently spoke with John Plocher (the comp.unix.microport moderator),
and he said he had discovered that a machine two nodes along the path
had collected all his outgoing stuff -- including a request to the
backbone to make the group unmoderated.

So, he's working on it, and as soon as he finds another link to replace
the one that's not working, things should be fine.
