We are running Doug Kingston's MDQS queueing system on our Sun network; in general we find it preferable to the Berkeley-style queueing software. Does anyone out there have a driver for Sun's laser printer? Any and all pointers would be appreciated; we don't have the personnel power to do this work ourselves. -- Mike Urban ...!trwrb!trwspp!spp2!urban "You're in a maze of twisty UUCP connections, all alike"

I don't know about "Sun's laser printer", but most laser printers are accessed via an RS-232 serial line, for which the ttyserver should be used (get the very latest version from BRL; it's been improved in order to cope with Hewlett-Packard's brain-damaged ideas about RS-232 connections). Imagen printers can optionally be accessed via Ethernet, using the imeserver.

While I can't help with a SUN laserwriter MDQS driver, I have modified the MDQS 2.11 generic tty driver to communicate with an Apple Laserwriter. If anyone would like it, I can make it available. Greg Hollingsworth uunet!umd5!gregh U of Maryland, CSC Systems staff gregh@trantor.umd.edu
