Howdy, A short question (from a friend, of course) about the AT&T 7300 machine. I know it runs UNIX, but does it support MS/PC DOS ? And if so, what chip is in there ? (8088,80286, etc) I can't get my hands on any specs right now. Thanx for any help. Bob Fox (FOX@ITHACA, GU087RAF@ITHACA) Consultant Ithaca College " And after 1986 what else can we do? " --B. Joel

I have a 3B1 that includes the DOS-73 processor board. It runs ALMOST all of the MS-DOS code that I have tried, but does so a a task under the UNIX/os. I must say however, that the i/o on it stinks and the printer spooling leaves a lot to be desired. As far as its use, I evaluate some packages for my clients that have not completely moved to a better OS :-}. The chip set is the 8086 and it has provisions for an 8087 Math processor on board also. It holds 512 Kbytes of ram and has its own RS-232 port (that I haven't figured out how to get to from UNIX yet!). You can have up to 256 virtual disks (but boy do they eat up you harddisk space!). Don't get the idea that I don't like the thing, cause with it you can have a very good chunk for both worlds. -- ========================================================================== Fast Enough - Never Is! | James A. The UNIX PC (aka 3B1 aka 7300) has a MC68010 clocked at 10MHz, and a custom MMU onboard. There is a plug-in card with an 8MHz 8086 such that you can run MS-DOS in a UNIX window (much like the BridgeCard of the Commodore Amiga A2000); a colleague at work has the "DOS-73" card in his home 3B1 and is very happy with it; I don't have that card in any of my 3B1s so cannot comment from firsthand experience. The 3B1 was manufactured by Convergent for AT&T.
