[comp.unix.questions] Finite Element software wanted

dave@csd4.milw.wisc.edu.UUCP (05/13/88)

I have a Civil Engineering professor who is inquiring about general
purpose finite element programs to use in both teaching and research.
He currently is using ANSYS on a pc, but this severely limits his capabilities
of performing advanced nonlinear analysis for research.

He mentions a series of packages: ANSYS, ADNIA, ABAQUS, MSC/NASTRAN, and
MARC. A friend of mine mentioned that NASTRAN is public domain. Can anyone
else inform me more on any of this stuff? How I can get it? What it requires
to run on?

We are running a Sperry 7000/40 (cci tahoe processor) with 32 meg of memory
and 1.6 G of already full disk. We have no graphics output devices other
than tektronix 40xx terminals and emulators. The software is 4.3 bsd+
with source license. We also have a Univac, I mean Sperry, I mean Unisys
1100, but I shouldn't really mention that....

Send me mail - I'll post summaries if anyone is interested.
