[comp.unix.questions] 'expand' utility

rshwake@irs3.UUCP (rshwake) (05/17/88)

Can anyone provide a source for the 'expand' utility provided by Zilog
under its ZEUS implementation. I don't find it on any of the other
System V based systems I work with, or on the CCI, which seems to have
roots in BSD. Is it public domain?

What does 'expand' do?

Same as "detab" in the Software Tools book: it expands tabs in its input
into a specified number (default: 8) of spaces.

There is a program called `adj' I've pulled out of a comp.sources.*
volume some (finite amount of) time ago. I still have a copy running.
The program allows to convert tabs to spaces and vice versa.
