How about Sam, the most "decent" editor I've ever used? While I still use emacs for programs, I use Frame Maker (Frame Technology) for papers. It's great. It's WYSIWYG and has a very nice orthogonal command structure. What's also amusing is that most of the emacs commands work in Frame, although they are just described in the documentation as "shorthands". It also lets you edit graphics just like MacDraw. The whole thing is very weird. The stole the best concepts from other programs to make this. It's fast. It's cheap. The manual is easy to read. And they answer their phones. Needless to say, it is extremely popular here where I work. I've written many papers using it, and just finished writing a 400 page book using it. (It produced the PostScript to make the camera-ready.) Neither my co-author nor I can stop being impressed by this product. Being a programmer, myself, I'm very critical. The only software I have ever raved about like this was Xinu and UNIX. PS: I have no connection with the company except as a customer. Don Libes cme-durer.arpa ...!uunet!cme-durer!libes
