			African Vegetable Stew

1 very large onion, chopped
1 bunch Swiss chard
1 can garbonzos (or chick peas, or ceci beans, or whatever you call them)
1/2 cup raisins
1/3 to 1/2 cup rice
several fresh tomatoes, or 1 large can
1 or 2 cloves garlic
2 yams
Tobasco sauce

Fry onion, garlic, and white stems or chard until barely limp. Add chopped
greens and fry a bit. Add garbonzos, raisins, thick slices of yams, and
tomatoes. Add salt and pepper to taste. Cook a couple of minutes, make a
well in the center, and put the rice in the well. Pat it down until the rice
is wet, cover, and cook until rice is done - about 25 minutes. Add Tobasco
sauce to taste.
