African Vegetable Stew 1 very large onion, chopped 1 bunch Swiss chard 1 can garbonzos (or chick peas, or ceci beans, or whatever you call them) 1/2 cup raisins 1/3 to 1/2 cup rice several fresh tomatoes, or 1 large can 1 or 2 cloves garlic 2 yams Tobasco sauce Fry onion, garlic, and white stems or chard until barely limp. Add chopped greens and fry a bit. Add garbonzos, raisins, thick slices of yams, and tomatoes. Add salt and pepper to taste. Cook a couple of minutes, make a well in the center, and put the rice in the well. Pat it down until the rice is wet, cover, and cook until rice is done - about 25 minutes.
