We are experiencing problems using the Telebit TrailBlazer modems and uucp. The two machines in question are a Sun4 running SunOS 3.2 in Ottawa and a Sun3/60 running SunOS 3.5 in Sydney. The blazer configuration is as follows: S51=5 S52=2 S54=3 S110=1 S111=30 S45=0 S58=0 S53=3 uucico has been patched to work at 19200 baud. Two problems seem to occur with annoying frequency. The first is a large variation in throughput. Sometimes we can get throughput of over 1500 cps, but on occasions it has been as low as 130 cps. Most frequently it varies between ~1200 and ~250; that is the rate is either 1200 or 250, not a range between the two. Could it be caused by the login cycling to a lower baud rate ? I have tried setting S50 to 255, and the modem indicates it is using PEP, yet the throughput is still much lower than expected. The second problem is occasional failures in the transfer. The file will actually make it to the destination, and a SYSLOG entry will be created. The LOGFILE entry will contain a the following lines: zyg gvcoz (8/31-9:08-5618) REQUEST (S file ~ zyg) zyg gvcoz (8/31-9:14-5618) BAD READ (expected 'C' got FAIL) zyg gvcoz (8/31-9:14-5618) FAILED (conversation complete) and the file remains in the uucp queue. Has anyone experienced similar problems ? -- Zygmunt Wiercioch 613-722-9518 GeoVision Corp, 350-1600 Carling Ave Ottawa Canada K1Z 8R7 UUCP: ...!utzoo!dciem!nrcaer!cognos!geovision!zyg
