[net.cooks] Oskar Questions

howard@sfmag.UUCP (H.M.Moskovitz) (10/07/85)

I just bought an Oskar food processor and have a couple questions
about it (and food processors in general).
	1) I used it first to slice up some veggies for salad using
the continuous feed attachment. Instead of slicing, it
tore and shredded the vegetables (yes, I used the correct
side of the disc). Is this normal, or is there something
that I can do to prevent this.

	2) Can this unit be used to make peanut (or other nut) butters?
	  	if so, how?

	3) What do I have to do differently if I want to grate something
finely as oppesed to course grating, e.g., if I was to
finely grate Romano cheese as opposed to stringy grating
		swiss cheese?

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.

I can't help you here. My Cuisinart doesn't do this.

Easy. Put roasted nuts in the bowl with the steel knife. Turn on the machine
and let it go for several minutes.

Cut the cheese into 1 inch chunks, put it into the bowl with the steel knife,
and pulse it several times, a second at a time at first, then several seconds
per pulse. Don't use cheese that is too hard: it should be possible to pierce
it with a pointed knife.

I have a cuisinart; what I do to finely grate cheeses (like romano or parmesan)
is to run it through the grater first (get the long stringy grating) then use
the steel blade to grind it fine.
