[comp.unix.questions] Net Novice seeks help

c60a-2ce@e260-2b.berkeley.edu (Mikey) (10/22/88)

I have subscribed to Usenet for about a year now, but my knowledge of nets
in general is still VERY basic. Would someone be so kind as to either
provide or direct me to explanations of how to read addresses, access
other networks, etc. Basically, I'd appreciate any info you can
provide me to help me navigate the sea of nets out there. I don't
know enough right now to ask specific qustions. Thanks!

Please reply via e-mail; I just don't have enough time to go thru
the entire newsgroup. Thanks a lot!

ME TOO!! ME TOO!! I'm fairly new (although I have learned a lot in the short
time I've been involved), but I think I'm also a potential gate to other posters
and need to know as much as possible about the intricacies of netnews as well as
mail paths and aliases (for example, one of my users asked if i knew the path
to kodak from here and the best i could do was ask him to call the user he
wanted to contact and find out that way). As you can see I'd appreciate any
and all help as well as literture to read or even classes offered in this
area.

thankyou,

pam

I suggest you read the October 1986 (Volume 29 number 10)
Issue of Communications of the ACM---Notable Computer Networks
by John S. Quarterman and Josiah C. Hoskins.
