[comp.unix.questions] Help in I/O timing

gregb@dowjone.UUCP (Greg_Baber) (11/10/88)

Hello,
I'm running SCO Xenix 2.3.1 on a AST Premium 386. I have installed
an Intelliport AT-16 sixteen port I/O card. I'd like to be able to
do some timing of the I/O routines. That is, how long does it take
for a byte to go from the card input to a program running in memory?
I assume that I'll be running a minimal system (all extra gettys
turned off, etc.) so that OS overhead is reduced. I'm concerned
about how long the character spends in the driver code. If the
delay in the driver is long, throughput may be high, but the delay
time could be prohibitive for my use. Any ideas??? gregb
