I just finished an interesting article by Andrew Hume in the November, 1988 issue of Software: Practice and Experience. In it he briefly describes the ``fio'' library routines, that provide a fast and portable input/output facility for C programs. Are these routines available anyplace? Also, are they described more completely in other moderately accessible literature? thanks, Doug Schmidt -- schmidt@ics.uci.edu (ARPA) | Per me si va nella citta' dolente. | Per me si va nell'eterno dolore. | Per me si va tra la perduta gente. | Lasciate ogni speranza o voi ch'entrate.

a bundle of the fio man page and macros is available via anonymous ftp at arpa.att.com robert elz (uunet!munnari!kre or something) has been talking to me about a public domain implementation. the whole source is 600 lines of code so it shouldn't be too hard.

anyone who gets the mk distribution (from AT&T toolchest) has the fio source.
