The batter is a bit runny so you should probably drain off 30-50% of fluid in the canned oranges. The cake comes out high, so about 120 to 140% pan surface area should make a cake you can attempt to bite (I have a BIG mounth). If you use 2 13x9's you should get "brownie thickness" cake, but the baking time is touchier. The frosting will be thick if you use it all, so 66% of above quantities will probably be enough. ----------------------------------------------------------------- This recipie copies without permision from "Pillsbury C A K E S Unlimited" ($1.98) This book is *FILLED* with great cakes like: Marzipan, Chocoalte Rasberry Cream Torte, Chocolate Mocha Baumkuchen, Buttercream Layered Fudge Cake, Orange Meringue Torte, Orange Flan Cake, Norweigian Hazelnut Cake, Chocolate-Cherry Angel Cake, Cachew Pineapple Cake, Lemon Meringue Cake, and my favorites that I'll post if asked: Raspberry Walnut Torte and Harvest Pumpkin Cake Roll! About half of these are scratch cakes, the others list a box of cake mix as an ingredient. (The mods, frosting and fillings will always convince your friends that they were ALL scratch cakes, though.) As a bonus for reading all this drivel: --------------------------cut here------------------------------- B L A C K F O R E S T C A K E 1 favorite Chocolate cake recipie or boxed mix. 1 21oz can of cheery pie filling (reserve .5 c) 1 extra egg. Increase number of eggs used by one. (ie: if is says 2 then use 3) replace *ALL* other liquid with the pie filling. Other than these modification, follow recipe. Batter will be thick (kinda like brownies) Frost sides, between layers, and one inch in on top with white or other frosting. Put remaining cherries in the center. -------I can not think of a more pleasent way to die that from eating 2 pieces of this cake I got this recipie from Jenny Weber who's the best (not counting mom) cook I know. Most of her recipies read like: Brownies: mix up dough. use extra chocolate (4 sq's) cook until done.
