I'm shortly going to have 6 unix hosts (running CCI's SysVR2.22, soon to be SysVR3.?) on an ethernet. The software does support all of the Berk. net extensions (rcp, rlogin, etc). Originally, most of the hosts had incoming modems, and I have recently added several outgoing modems. I'm not currently using uugetty or any other software that will allow sharing in & outgoing modems (but it shouldn't be hard to get). Although I expect the use of modems to increase, our current needs are light. Most of the time, none of them are being used. At least one host sometimes has 2 in and 1 out going at the same time. Has anybody saved any money [time is NOT always money :-) ] by sharing modems between their unix hosts? If so, how do you config the hardware. Someone suggested terminal servers, but they go about $5000 for 8 terms. How about software (all comm programs are uucp compat; uucp, cu, pcomm, kermit, etc). Thanks for your ideas, -- jay heiser jay@pentagon-ai.army.mil hqda-ai!jay
