I have a Kennedy Tape Drive Model 9610/9660 being driven by a Tape Dimenison/ Q-Bus Tape Controller, this is then plugged into a Microvax II running Ultrix 2.2. I attempt to create a tar tape using this setup. Everthing appears to go along fine until I get to verify the tape I read with a tar -tvf. If I create the tape at 6250 density I get directory checksum error. If I attempt to create the same tape at 1600 density, I don't have any problems. The failure occurs in the same place everytime. If I try to create a dump tape. I get synch errors at the beginning of the tape. When I do a restore -tvf. The tape seems to write O.K. This produces a record length short error in the system error log. I have one other clue to this problem. I have the hardware set for TS11 emulation. The system according to the error log says that it is a TS05 tape drive. I have tried various hardware settings and no matter what it still thinks that it is a TS05 tape drive. I have a different tape drive that knows that it is a TS11 tape drive so I am sure that the driver is setup to handle the TS11. Please help if you can! Cathy Accettura cathy@larry.sal.wisc.edu
