This started out as a uw question. UW is a Macintosh/Unix program that provides multiple sessions over a terminal line using pty's. I've tried to get it to work by compiling the Unix server propertly, but when I start it up it just hangs. I finally discovered that it's stopped, waiting for tty input. Hm. That rung a bell. The 'script' command is supposed to capture whatever you type and record it in 'typescript'. It used to work here (Ultrix 1.2) but one day, mysteriously, whenever invoked, it immediately stopped, waiting for -- you guessed it -- tty input. You can't put it in the foreground by typing %, because it immediately stops again. (Actually, when it starts, it says, "script started, file is typescript". If you % it, it says "script done, file is typescript" and stops. If you % it again, it says "script done, file is typescript" again, and exits.) I presume that whatever will restore script to its right mind might also be the clue to getting uw to work, as well. What's going on; how do I fix it?
