By 1985 or so, there were published accounts of two pseudo-filesystems that were not really based on an a real (disk-based) filesystem (the face server and the connection server from the 8th edition Unix). Despite the common availability of file server protocols such as NFS, I have heard nothing about other such filesystems. I would like to hear about any such filesystems; e-mail to research!andrew or andrew@research.att.com is preferred but sillier things have posted to this newsgroup. I will post a summary after a while.
