There is a terrific cider/wine press available, IF you're
willing to spend some money.
The White Mountain Freezer Company sells original designs
of traditional appliances. They have ice cream freezers,
dough makers, cherry seeders, nut crackers, pop corn poppers,
apple parers, and of course an old fashioned fruit press!!!
I am delighted with my ice cream maker, and I think the
fruit press looks great.
The brochure says:
"Authentic Old Fashioned" Now you can make
delicious cider and rich, full-bodied wines
the age-old way. With the White Mountain
traditional fruit press, it's easy to extract
the maximum amount of juice from any fruit pulp.
Sturdily constructed, this authentic fruit press
has strong slotted, wooden sides from which juice
flows onto a wooden tray as the pulp is pressed by
turning. No metal comes into contact with juice.
		Fun for the whole family.

The Fruit Press is model 401, shipping weight - 25 lbs.
PRICE - $$104.95 (This price may have changed from my list.)

I remember several years ago when my grandmother got an Acme
Juicerator and i made apple juice. What heaven that stuff was. The
Acme Juicerator isn't a cider or wine press but is a general-purpose
fruit and vegetable juicer. It works by shredding the fruit and then
those shreds are centrifuged at high speed to extract the juices.
Many health-food and discount appliance stores carry them.

The obvious advantage over the White Mountain cider press is that it
is electrical and you just shove apples into the feed chute and out
comes the juice.

Also, i personally find the White Mountain products way overpriced.
When i bought my ice cream machine i looked at the White Mountain and
couldn't understand why i should pay over $100 for it when i could get
a no-name brand one that looked just as good for less than $30
(actually it's even better; the motor slows down/speeds up as
necessary to compensate for the freezing of the ice cream). I was
also somewhat concerned that the wooden beaters in the White Mountain
could absorb flavors.
