I was watching a video of the group, Culture Club on Mtv the other night,
actually it was a concert. On one of the closeups, the lead singer appeared
differently to me than on the videos. Although the singer's voice is rather
deep, it is possible for the singer to be a woman, but according to the
close ups; singer looked to be a transvestite. Could someone, who has fol-
lowed the career of this group tell me if the lead singer is a man or a
woman? I am insatiably curious.

                                    Thank you

As I have heard it, the lead singer for the group is
supposed to be a guy, but he dresses up to sing. I also heard
that he(?) was recently voted ugliest man in the U.K. and
also 6th ugliest woman. And to think that they're making
more money in one year than most of us will see in a lifetime.....

Boy George is most definitely male. As I understand
it, his cross-dressing is a statement of his belief that sex
(sexuality) is a rather complex and often troublesome topic.
Rather than trying to actually be female, he is really pushing
an asexual message: he wants people to see the sanity(sic) in
being, if you will, neuter! While I won't argue that his point
has some validity, i.e., that living as a sexual being can and
does bring one often to the edges of mental stability, I must
say that I quite honestly am glad to have gender -- life would
be awfully dull (perhaps blissfully dull-- maybe that's his point!)
without it.

p.s. Rumor has it that his cross-dressing was part of the media
campaign for their recent album and video, and that it may end
with the next set of videos. [Does that nullify all that I've
said above???]
