[net.cooks] Ginger beer/ale: can I make it?

Ok, Ok, all this talk about ginger beer and ginger ale is great, but
can I make it at home?  I brew beer and make root beer from a mix
(I cannot find a good list of all the herbs to use!), so can I make
(brew?) ginger beer?  Even from a mix?
