[comp.unix.questions] Want to know relative merits of standard backup utilities.

Hi, all.

I'm interested in hearing your comments on the relative merits
(or lack thereof) regarding the so-called `standard' backup/
archive utilities.  More specifically: dump vs. tar vs. cpio
vs. dd vs. ??  I've been using dump (yes, I know it's BSD
specific); but I wonder if it's really the cat's pajamas. :-)
