[ what a pear of apples! ] I think the apple pears mentioned in an earlier article are actually Oriental or Asian pears. An article in "Texas Gardener" mentioned that eight varieties are grown by farmers in Texas. They're growing in popularity because they're crisp like apples, but are really pears and have a delicious flavor. I've had them, and they're great! (But these were in Japan. . .) :-) Joyce and Bill
