[comp.unix.questions] reading function keys

Can anyone suggest/supply a source for reading single keystrokes from a
terminal input?  The problem seems to be in reading function and/or arrow
keys.

The curses routines supplied with Xenix seem to be extremely slow in this
regard.

C source, via e-mail, would be appreciated.
