I am looking for a specification of the `installpkg` package format used in System V release 3.2 (and maybe in other releases too). The format seems to have a couple of files named Size, Install etc, and nicely remembers installed packages and files so you can remove the packages. But what is the exact format or where can I find a definition? Reply, by email and I will summarize if there is enough interest. /bear -- Bjorn Sjoholm UUCP: bear@kuling.uu.se (...!uunet!sunic!kuling!bear) Uppsala, Sweden Phone: +46 18 155097

Please summarize and post. Thanks.

This information is provided with Interactive/IX 386 Unix. Unfortunately, precious little other information is provided with Interactive's Unix. ...!gatech!stiatl!todd Todd Merriman * 404-377-TOFU * Atlanta, GA

The packaging format is described in the document: "AT&T 3B Computer Application Software Packaging Guide", select code 305-001 (Issue 1, dated 1988) It appears to be fairly generic; I don't know if there is a different packaging guide for the 6386. Look in the UNIX System V/386 Release 3.2 Integrated Software
Development Guide (ISDG). Select Code 999-300-523 or COM CODE
105-540-173-CC. Refer to CHapter 2.

Please consult the UNIX System V/386 Release 3.2 Integrated Software Development Guide. It has all the details on installpkg, removepkg and installable drivers. Sincerely, John Urban

I believe the original poster wanted to know the format for 3B2 installable floppies. I don't have a reference, but if you have a 3B2, just look at the shell script for installpkg and see what it expects, then look at an installable package and see what's there. It goes into all the nasty details of installpkg, removepkg, Size, Install, Name, Remove, etc. I have found it useful in the past. Debi Kipping debik@olivee.olivetti.com
