Several eons ago (actually about a month) I posted a request for
suggestions for plain UNIX boxes, no flashy graphics and windowing
needed, or even desired. Are there such beasts? To be blunt, from
the replies I got, the answer is no. There were, however, some
"close but no cigar" suggestions, which might be of interest to
some.
Most frequent suggestion:
The 3b1 _is_ still supported by AT&T, so go with that---a cheap
System V system.
Other contenders:
Old Sun 3s, or a Sun 386i.
Megadata Corp. 68k-based Model 6 and 7
386-based SysVr3.2, Xenix, etc.
Multi-user boxes:
Integrated Solutions Optimum V16S or V24S (BSD)
AT&T 3B2/600 (SysV [of course])
Pyramid 98x (dual universe SysV/BSD) [widely called a solid machine]
Sequent Balance (???, NS32000)
DEC VAX 11/750 or MicroVAX II (BSD [aka Ultrix])
