A great source for recipes (not a cook book) is the 'GOURMET' magazine. I received a subscription for Christmas a few years ago, and have always found at least one good recipe to try in every edition. Each month there is a section with a step by step photo expose of some recipe to help learn some new method, and every edition always has a section of basic recipes for ingredients to be used in other recipes. For example, if one of the main recipes calls for pate sucre or artichoke hearts or chicken broth, then the preparation of these is given in the section on basic recipes. You don't need to get out 4 different cookbooks to cook one thing. Other features include a travel and dining review of someplace, frequently Europe but also various parts of U.S.A., etc; a section where reader can write with recipes or request recipes; and a dining guide for travellers, recommending restaurants in cities all over the world. I always find the section where readers request recipes intriguing since many of them are of the form, "Last year when my wife and I were in Brazil, we had supper at ____________ where we had a wonderful ___________. Can you get the recipe?" GOURMET gets and publishes some very good recipes because of requests like this. Also, the index at the back is good and makes recipes easy to find. I highly recommend this magazine. Dave Katz
