I am looking for a pd version of uugetty. It is my impression that uugetty will allow a port to dial out even with a getty running (disabling the getty of course). Is this correct? I am hopeful that it is and such a program will run under SYSV.2.

I'm not sure if it will run under version 2 tho. -- Mitchell Lerner UUCP: {ucbvax,ihnp4,decvax}!trwrb!cadovax!mitchell "When I fight with my mind, my mind always wins" - Ben Hummel

I have uugetty respawned (for mail, uucp, etc.) in /etc/inittab on a sys V machine. Is there any convienent way to disable uugetty so that kermit could be used on the same device intermittently, and then enable the uugetty respawn? Thanks, John

Interactive Systems will be releasing an update next week that corrects a problem in the serial driver that deals with uugetty using bi-directional serial ports for modems. I tried and tried to get this working (a port for both incoming and outgoing calls) and even with the various configurations of setup information, could never get things working on a consistant basis. Hopefully this update with solve my problems. -- Larry Snyder uucp:iuvax!ndcheg!ndmath!nstar!larry The Northern Star Usenet Distribution Site, Notre Dame, IN USA

First of all, I thank all those who helped me about HDB-UUCP. Now, I have no problems. The '-h' parameter solves the bidirectional (direct) connection with two HDB-UUCP versions. uugetty works very well. I also tried bi-directional connection with modems and for the first time, I couldn't succeed. But I checked the hardware and software both. I called the technical person for modems and we realized that the one of the modems is erroneous. We replaced the modem with newer one and now everything works with modem, too. To sum up, both with modem and with direct cable, bidirectional connection is possible with HDB-UUCP. There are no errors. cu works pretty well except its slowness (I use 1200 baud). I haven't tried uucico over modem conection yet. I will try it tomorrow. By the way, I am using NCR Tower's under UnixV.3 . I appreciate the help of NCR-Turkey SSD (System Support Department) since I told them what to do. They were having no experience. :-( :-) I thank Mike Wescott for his valuable help that I could never think about it ( the '-h' parameter). I still have no idea why I have to use '-h' parameter with two uugetty's at each end. Manual says that it is only needed with communicating with getty. Ferhat Djavidan
