Hello, I seem to be having a problem with rn on my Sun. When I do a 'k' on a newsgroup that has a very large number of articles in it (i.e. comp.lang.c) rn seems to get "lost" after the kill. The top line tells me that I'm reading Article XXXX (YYY more), but there's no text displayed after the header information. When I use a text editor to actually display the file XXXX in the appropriate directory, it's a different file. When I find the file that corres- ponds to the header that's displayed, there is text in the article. The very next k doesn't kill the subject line that is displayed. Most of my files are mounted via NFS (/usr/local/lib/rn, etc) We run Yellow Pages and our local network guru had to do some fiddling so that we can post from our individual machines and the posted articles get queued by the mail server and sent at certain intervals. -- Reply to: Gregory S. I tried looking at the man page for rn but it didn't help a lot, it just gave tantalizing glimpses of the possibilities. Anyway, I am looking for a way to be able to search through all the new articles (preferably in groups that I subscribe to as well as ones that I don't) for a certain string. When it finds an article with that string I want to save the article to a file and then junk that article. I could probably write some sort of shell script but I want to see what I can do in rn first. Also, does anyone know of any good sources of information for rn other than the man page? I consider myself to be at an average level but I would like to learn more about controlling this beast. You could do what I do, Edit your kill files to do the saving and junking for you when you enter the news groups. I save the comp.binaries.* and comp.sources.* postings this way. /^/:s:j Find all, save it, and junkit. -- Matthew Lee Stier | Sun Microsystems --- RTP, NC 27709-3447 | "Wisconsin Escapee" uucp: sun!mstier or mcnc!rti!sunpix!matthew | phone: (919) 469-8300 fax: (919) 460-8355 |
