I have a terminal(tvi950) on a plexus P/60 that has a continous "login:" on the screen. System V unix ver 3.1. It really puzzling and would like some help on what the problem may be. I have "killed the process with -9", swapped terminals, resoldered the connectors(2,3,7 xon/off),swapped modems (4800bps) and contacted the phone company to check on leased line;but, I still have a login: scrolling down the screen. Has any experienced this problem? Thanks Bob Beaulieu -- Bob Beaulieu 277-b Tyrella Avenue Mountain View, CA 94043 (415) 967-4678

Could it be that your terminal is somehow sending continuous carriage-returns down the line? We've had occasional problems in the past with misbehaving terminals, and the system console used to say "getty failing, sleeping" for that particular port. We've now gone over to Ethernetted terminals so the problem no longer occurs. Have you tried connecting a different terminal to that port to see what happens? -- Andy Clews, Computing Service, Univ. of Sussex, Brighton BN1 9QN, ENGLAND JANET: andy@syma.sussex.ac.uk BITNET: andy%syma.sussex.ac.uk@uk.ac Voice: +44 273 606755 ext.2129
