[comp.unix.questions] Using rdist or equivalent without superuser status ?

I am trying to maintain the same version of software across many UNIX
systems, however using rdist requires access to the hosts.equiv file
on all the receiving machines.

Is there a method or script that will perform the functional
equivalent?
