[net.music] best video shorts ....

In line with the discussion on MTV...I am interested in what video
shorts (ie songs) are the favorite of those of us here in NETLAND:
The few that I can think of that were GOOD enjoyable video
art (as opposed to merely filming the group on stage, or strange and
unintelligible graphics (like the Steve Miller Bands' "Abracadabra"
video (I still think that the line 'silk and satin, leather and lace,
black panties and an angels face' could have AT LEAST had a nice
semi-clad woman involved...))) (lots o' parens!) are;

Thomas Dolby - 'She blinded me with science'
Good stuff! One of my favorite songs right
now and a great video too! The timing is
			 EXTREMELY well done on this.

	Billy Joel - 'Allentown'
Quite good, with good up-beat music. The only
part I disliked was the dance group that (??)
mysteriously appears in the last part of the
			 song/short.

	<unknown> - 'Don't pay the ferryman'
(I think that is the name of the song)
Neat! Nice ominous overtones to the graphics,
			 and a good song too!

Men At Work - 'Down Under'
Even though this group has suffered heavy over-
play (or 'overkill' in the parlance of their
new "Cargo" album...) this video was quite in-
teresting when I first saw it. Wierd.

That's all that I can think of (I don't get MTV so I can only
see these video's either when I visit my folks or once a month when
a local 'rock' station (KGB-FM) has an hour-long show of the top video
shorts (although I am not too sure how they arrive at this list))

All in all, I think that this is a definite positive direction
to music/filmaking (neat abbreviation, huh!!) that should be promoted
by all of us to allow it time to expand into a REAL LIVE VIABLE artform.

(If only I had a TV...)

Who can reist the "Rio" video from Duran Duran?? It is anything BUT a live
stage taping. The women are beautiful, the scenery excellent, and the music
great! As for MTV itself, I only get to see it when I visit my parents house
(they hate it, my 18 yr old brother loves it). It is better than just
listening to the radio!! They have some work to do, but as many people said,
it is a step in the right direction.
