I have two Ultrix systems that are using NFS and yellow pages. UUCP works from one machine (thoth) and not the other (silc). The machines share the same /var/uucp and /usr/spool/uucp directories: Typical /usr/spool/uucp/sys entries drwxr-xr-x 9 uucp daemon 512 Jan 16 13:33 bunny drwxr-xr-x 9 uucp daemon 512 Jan 17 09:29 harvard contents of /usr/spool/uucp/sys/harvard drwxr-xr-x 2 uucp daemon 512 Jan 17 09:38 C. drwxr-xr-x 2 uucp daemon 512 Apr 28 1989 D. drwxr-xr-x 2 uucp daemon 512 Jan 17 09:29 D.silc drwxr-xr-x 2 uucp daemon 512 Jan 17 09:29 D.silcX drwxr-xr-x 2 uucp daemon 512 Jan 17 09:11 D.thoth drwxr-xr-x 2 uucp daemon 512 Jan 17 09:11 D.thothX drwxr-xr-x 2 uucp daemon 512 Apr 28 1989 X. Mail sent from thoth goes into D.thoth (data) and D.thothX (instructions). Mail sent from silc goes into D.silc (data) and D.silcX (instructions). Uutry works normally from thoth (as reporteed by uulog): root harvard (1/17-13:58-20627) OK (conversation complete) root harvard (1/17-13:59-20627) closed generic acu (fd=8) Uutry fails from silc : root harvard (1/17-13:57-22983) ERROR (Generic dialer failed - acu = /dev/ttyd0, cause = no carrier) root harvard (1/17-13:57-22983) FAILED (call to harvard, DIAL FAILED ) Question : Why does the generic dialer always fail from one machine, and work from the other?
