[comp.unix.questions] HDB UUCP POLLING

nigel@cmsfl@labtam.oz (Nigel Harwood) (02/05/90)

The implementation of HDB UUCP I use has a facility for polling systems
at a certain hour(s) of the day.

Basically a script is run by cron each hour which checks a text file
for systems which are to be called this hour. When it finds one it
creates a file in the systems /usr/spool/uucp/ directory called
C.xxxxxxxn0000. A little later cron kicks of a uusched which then
sees the file and calls the system.

The problem is that I have ten modems and start up five uuscheds to
service them.

Guess what ? Yep, all five uuscheds poll the system with the C.xxxxxxxn0000
file.

To me it sounds like the uuscheds see who needs talking to before they
begin and then don't notice that one of the other uuscheds has already
taken care of it.

Ideas ?
