I am posting this for a friend who doesn't have net access so respond
direct to me and I will forward.
HARDWARE:
Data General Aviion 5100 spooling to a Genicon printer
SOFTWARE:
Op. system is DG UNIX v4.2.
Custom software: they are running a menu-driven commodities-trading
custom-adapted software from Vista. Software is written in MUMPS.
PROBLEM:
When trying to spool to the printer the terminal and printer freeze. Any
attempt to spool to that printer causes this.
Complaints to Vista result in "It's a problem with the Data General hardware or
software. Data General is known to have problems like that, so complain to
them"
Complaints to Data General result in "It's a problem with the Vista software"
(These quotas are what I was told. I don't guarantee the accuracy).
QUESTIONS:
1) has any one else run into this type of problem with a Data General
system?
2) any opinions/comments on the reliability of DG equipment and UNIX?
3) any opinions/comments on the 'goodness' of DG maintenance people?
4) any suggestions on what could be causing this problem?
5) any suggestions on how to fix this problem?
Any help will be GREATLY appreciated as this has been going on for over a
month and they (the friend) see no end in sight.
