[comp.unix.questions] Problems with lpr system

SML108@psuvm.psu.edu (02/17/90)

Hi, I am trying to implement lpr on an SGI IRIS 4D/220 running system V unix
and have obtained working copies of lpr, lpc, lpq and lprm. I have installed all
the appropriate directories and invoked lpd and added the line in /etc/services
for local_printer. However, when I type lpq or use lpc, they state that the
daemon is not present and whatever I try to print simply piles up in the queue.

Any ideas as to what's wrong here?

Look in comp.archives posting of 6 Feb 90 <10808@stag.math.lsa.umich.edu>.
FTP what you want from bu.edu, directory src/PRINTING. Original
follows. Might want to look at comp.sys.sgi for other questions.

I posted such a beast... look in bu.edu:~ftp/src/PRINTING/SGI-LPR-LPD.SHAR

I didn't put in local printers (ie; use of termio rather then sgtty)
but someone else did! I saved THAT posting in the same dir as AUX-lpd

No, but why bother when you can get the latest MDQS release via anonymous FTP
from host VGR.BRL.MIL. We're using that version on our 4Ds.
