[comp.unix.questions] AT&T papers on network interfaces

buck@siswat.UUCP (A. Lester Buck) (03/13/90)

I am starting some work with the Portable Streams Environment from Mentat,
and was reading the release notes for Interactive Systems' reference port
to 386/ix. It contained the following information:

--------
There are several papers available from AT&T which describe the TPI, LLI
and DLPI interfaces. These documents are under copyright protection of
AT&T but are distributed by them directly upon request. The following
is a list of these papers:

1)	"A STREAMS-based Data Link Provider Interface - Version 1.2," authored
by R.J. Lewis, J.K. Fellin, and D.J. Olander. This is the definition
of DLPI, which is a superset of the LLI definition.

2)	"Logical Link Interface: A Proposed Service Interface - Issue 1,"
authored by G.J. McGrath, T.L. Hytry, and J.H. Singh. This is the
	definition of LLI.

3)	"The UNIX Transport Specification - Issue 2," authored by G.J. McGrath
and D.J. Olander. This is everything you ever want to know about TLI,
TPI, and more. In particular, Appendix 2 of this document is the
	definition of TPI.
-------

Interactive PSE tech support is looking into where to call to obtain these
papers, but I was interested in knowing independently of ISC. Does anyone
know where to obtain these documents? And does AT&T have a list of available
technical papers such as the above?

BTW, I tried to order the SVR4 networking manuals today, but Prentice Hall
told me they were not yet available. But I know I saw the books for sale at
Usenix and Uniform in January. Were those pre-release copies, or are these
manuals available for sale anywhere now?

Thanks alot!
