[net.cooks] mod.recipes needs your input

reid@glacier.ARPA (Brian Reid) (02/21/86)

The mod.recipes vaults are running low; starting in a couple of weeks I am
going to have to resort to re-runs or else send you a bunch of my own
recipes. If every person who reads mod.recipes would submit one recipe,
think what that would accomplish (would it overflow the disks on Glacier? I
hope not). I estimate that net.cooks has about 1000 readers worldwide, and
that mod.recipes has about 500. Your recipe can make a difference.

Dan Faigin of SDCRDCF has been valiantly converting some recent postings to
net.cooks into mod.recipes formats. Without his contribution we would have
run dry already. If there are other volunteers to do conversions, I will set
up a mailing list so we can avoid duplicating the effort.

Here are some categories in which I'd like to see some recipes submitted:
 * barbecue sauces	* marinades * nonalcoholic party drinks
 * pasta sauces		* school-lunchbox items	* spiked punch
 * regional dishes	* tasty diet foods	* tasty low-sodium foods
 * chili		* pizza			* anything Mexican

I am ESPECIALLY interested in getting people to submit "family heirloom"
casserole recipes. Almost every cook I know has a casserole recipe or two
that he got from his parents or grandparents. I've put my own family's
recipe for Delmonico Potatoes into the mod.recipes outgoing queues (it will
go out in early March). I'll probably get my sister to type in the Reid
Family Tuna Casserole recipe sometime. Maybe you think your family casserole
recipes are too mundane for an international computer network, but hey,
do you eat casseroles or roast pheasant more often? Right. me too.

It's perfectly OK to just post something to net.cooks. Dan and I both read
it and cull the interesting-looking recipes for conversion to mod.recipes
format. Here are the instructions for how to prepare a recipe for
mod.recipes.

SYNOPSIS
Mail your recipe to mod-recipes@glacier. Try not to plagiar-
ize. If you want to put in your own troff commands, use the
Unix manual macros. If you don't know how to mail to glacier,
     try posting directly to mod.recipes.

HOW TO STRUCTURE A RECIPE
1 Put your recipe in the standard sequence:
               - Title and 1-line description
               - Introductory commentary, explaining (if possi-
ble) where you got the recipe from.
               - list of ingredients, using "Tbsp", "tsp",
                 "cup", "oz", and "lb",
               - Numbered sequence of recipe steps.
               - Notes (if any). Comments on how you like to make
		 it, or ingredient availability, etc.
	       - Your ``signature''. This should include your name
and net address, the organization that you are a
part of, and the name of the city it is in. It can
also include other frivolity or foolishness if you
like; I'll include as much of it as will fit on
                 the page.

CATEGORY CODES
         M Main dish SL Salad
A Appetizer or snack SP Soup
         B Bread/cake/pasta D Dessert
L Beverage (Liquid) V Vegetable dish
The suffix ``V'' on any category means that it is
vegetarian; for example, a vegetarian main dish recipe would
     be marked ``MV''.

I just started my cookbook from mod.recipes last week
and I WOULD be intrested in reruns since I haven't seen
them yet. If there aren't reruns how can I get copys
of the recipes that have already been posted ?
