[comp.unix.questions] tar path name length limit

We're using tar to copy the entire contents of one disk to
another. We have a path name of more than 120 characters and
apparently this causes tar to choke, the actual error message
refers to a bus error. We're running Ultrix 3.1B on a 6420 vax.
Any body got any ideas how to get around this. We can't change the
path names without a great deal of trouble because it's some vendor
supplied software.
