Quick question to the net.peopleintheknow: is there a way to use the same KILL file in specified newsgroups? For example, I'd like to use the KILL file I use for rec.music.misc also in rec.music.cd, but no where else (I don't want to be global or make a copy of it because it's over 600 lines long.) Is there a line I could put in my rec.music.cd KILL file to tell it to run my rec.music.misc KILL file? Thanks in advance! Link them together with the "ln" command. Doesn't matter if you use soft or hard. If you don't know what I mean by soft or hard, then just use what the manual says is available. -- Tom Reingold tr@samadams.princeton.edu

Marty Saletta <fredonia!sale5312@cs.buffalo.edu> asked if there is a way to use the same KILL file for more than one newsgroup. Tom Reingold <tr@samadams.princeton.edu> suggested linking them together using "ln". Tom, please don't post answers without testing them out first. Your suggestion will cause the "THRU" line added to the KILL files by rn to be corrupted, causing incorrect KILL file processing. Marty, I don't know of any general solution to your request. You could define a macro to be used for adding to the relevant KILL files, which adds the same line to each one. But that would mean you couldn't use nice features like /pattern/K:=:j in those newsgroups. -- Geoff Clare, UniSoft Limited, Saunderson House, Hayne Street, London EC1A 9HH gwc@root.co.uk (Dumb mailers: ...!uunet!root.co.uk!gwc) Tel: +44-1-315-6600 (from 6th May 1990): +44-71-315-6600
