[comp.unix.questions] How to check for [new] mail at login time?.

greyham@hades.OZ (Greyham Stoney) (05/04/90)

I'm looking for solutions to the problem of how to check for a user having
mail (and saying specifically if it's new) at login time. What's the
standard way of checking for this on System-V Unix?.

I'd like this check to be done for every user when they log in, and display
soething like:
You have new mail (if they have new mail)
You have mail (if they have mail, but it's not 'new')
					(nothing if they've no mail)

I could scratch together my own solution, but I'd rather use a standard one
if there is one.

If anyone has scripts or programs or info they could send me on this, please
Email. Post too if you like, but please email me a copy.

						thanks,
							Greyham.
