As you know, the ".netrc" file residing in a user's home directory permits automatic executions of "ftp." I have consulted the manuals (SunOS 3.4 4.3bsd) but thusfar have been unable to get this to work. Perhaps there is some undocumented *feature* of which I am unaware, or maybe I am just plain ignorant. Any suggestions/assistance would be most appreciated.

Perhaps if you posted your attempt, people could point out your errors. If you are reluctant to do so because of embedded passwords, two points: 1) You could delete the passwords from the posted version, and 2) As has been mentioned on the the comp.unix.* newsgroups a lot lately, keeping plaintext passwords in a .netrc (even a mode 600 .netrc) is stupid.
