[comp.unix.questions] cpio question

logan@rockville.dg.com (James L. Logan) (07/06/90)

I know this is icky, but I am looking for a cpio program that
runs under MESS-DOS. If anyone has ever seen such an animal,
please let me know what it's called so I have some idea what I'm
looking for.

I have to store a collection of files onto a DOS diskette from
UNIX so they can be read by a DOS machine. I would like to use
cpio on my side, rather than having to use some crazy UNIX-to-DOS
copy program.

			Thanks in advance,
			     -Jim

There is a public domain program "afio" that I think might be available
under "MESS-DOS"; also a PD-TAR program (tar seems more popular with
MS-DOSites than cpio, cpio seems much better to me and most *NIX persons
I know). I'm guessing you have binaries to transfer, since there are
lots of easy ways to transfer text files between UNIX and DOS.

You can find these programs in places like the UNIXFORUM on the Compuserve
Information System, BIX, UseNet Source Archives, and many public access
UNIX systems. Also, the C Users Group sells some DOS-UNIX stuff like this.

If you get stuck and can't locate 'em send me email and I'll try to rustle
something up for you.
