[net.cooks] Help! How to make a good chinese food sauce?

vrsyrotiuk@watdaisy.UUCP (Violet Syrotiuk) (03/20/86)

Hi!

Whenever I make Chinese food I am always disappointed with the sauce
for the meal. After I spend so much time cutting up vegetables I get
discouraged. If anyone has a good flavourful (and spicy!) sauce they
could give me I'd really appreciate it!

The simplest I've found is to stir fry the veggies (and/or meat) in
sesame oil mixed with chili. Use moderation -- unless you *like*
*spicy*.

I got the chilied oil at our local Safeway (Half Moon Bay, CA), in the oriental
foods section. I'm sure you could find it more cheaply at an Oriental
Foods Store.

In general, I've discovered sesame oil preferable for oriental stir fry.
