I would like to learn more about sendmail and how the configuration file works and how the alias tables work, etc. Could some kind sole point me to some documentation on this? I have read RFC 822 and 821 and have read the man pages and a little about the other ARPA services but I would like to know more about the actual sendmail program. i.e. how it parses the mail message what it does with the Bcc: field and ... If there is a book on how this stuff was desingned and how it operates that would be great. Thank you for any pointers.

I have heard about an article or book called: SENDMAIL - Installation and Oeration Guide by a guy named Eric Allman. I'd like to have it too, but wasn't able to find a source. Any help ?

It's actually called "Sendmail Operations Guide," and it's part of the
sendmail distribution. When executing...
zcat sendmail.5.64.tar.Z | tar tvf -
...it shows up as...
